A Disciple of Jesus Christ

This was such a fun week!(: So many adventures! Last P-day I went to the beach with the ZhuNan zone. I absolutely love hanging out with missionaries! They are so much fun(: This week I had the chance to go on another exchange with Sister Fan! I'm so happy for that opportunity because she has started packing up to go home this coming Saturday! Time is so fast! While we were together our lesson stood us up, so Sister Fan looked at me and said, "Perfect! I can cook you a 'Thousand-Year-Old egg!'" Yes, that sounds lovely. Haha! Basically it's an aged egg that is all black! She mixed it in with a bunch of other stuff, but I can cross that off my list of things to eat haha!

This week we met with Xu Jie Mei, the referral from the other ward, and she is so amazing! She talked about how she loves the church's outlook on families. She also told us that she believes meeting us was God's set up! One day she had received two text messages, one from her LDS friend and one from her Buddhist friend, saying to come to their chapels. Well, she was planning on looking into the Buddhist one but looked at the wrong text so ended up coming to ours! She believes that it was God leading her! She is so awesome! She set a date for the 24th of October! Please pray for her!

Friday was such a fun day! We had an outdoor zone conference, so the XinZhu and ZhuNan zone all got together with President Jergensen and hiked a mountain! That morning I had woken up and was debating on whether I should wear capris or longer pants. At the moment that I said, "If I don't wear pants I will probably get bitten by bugs," I felt something crawl across my foot. I looked down and saw this GIANT cockroach. So my dear companion chased the thing around our room while I screamed. I recognized that as a sign from God that I needed to wear pants ;) haha! Then we had to get to the ZhuNan train station on time. We got to the XinZhu station to get on the train. We had about 5 minutes when my companion swiped her card and entered the platform. I tried, but I had -15 kuai on my card, so I had to add money! I waited in line and when I got to the front I was told I had to go to another line to swipe my card. By this time I had about a minute until the train left. Finally, I raced onto the platform and us five sisters raced to the train as the horn started going off that it was leaving. The four sisters got on the train and looked back and watched me as I sprinted and hopped on just in time to catch the train. That was a nice warm up for the day ;)
The hike was super fun! There were GIANT banana spiders everywhere! Gross. But we got some awesome trainings on being brave and sharing this gospel. President really emphasized the scriptures 3 Nephi 5:13 "Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of him to declare his word among his people, that they might have everlasting life." I have been commissioned to preach this gospel to the people of Taiwan! I love that! What an awesome calling! I love representing Christ and helping people come unto Him! What an experience. I am so happy with who I am and what I'm doing. Life is too good(:
I love you all so much!(:

Warm Hugs

I think I'll stop saying how fast my weeks go by because every week gets faster and faster! I had the opportunity to go on two exchanges this week and they were both in my area. We saw so many miracles! When I was Sister Phelps we started biking home to finish the night with some finding when I felt prompted to talk to three different people as we biked home. They were all so sweet and so prepared! I love how God guides this work. When Sister Cardon came here we went out to dinner and ran into a super sweet LA that paid for our meals! Little tender mercies from God. Then left to go finding. We ran into a white person... and I seriously admire all the missionaries that serve in the states. White people are so scary! Haha! But she was really nice(: But after that Sister Cardon realized that her overnight bag was missing. We went back to the restaurant and it wasn't there. We realized it must have been left on the train when we traveled here. Luckily that LA was still there so she spent some time calling the train station for us. How sweet! Seriously, God watches out for us. She found her bag the next day at the train station. God is a God of miracles!
On Saturday we did an activity with the young men/young women in our stake. We took them all out finding to give them a taste of missionary work! At first we were getting rejected by every single person, and I felt really bad for my companion, Sophia. But we decided to say a prayer and after that people began listening to us! Prayer is real and it works!
That night we met with a new investigator, Xu Jie Mei. She is a referral from a member in the other ward and I absolutely love her! She has the cutest 6 year old son. The Spirit was so strong in the lesson and at the end we gave her a hug. She told us, "You both give warm hugs." How sweet! That's the Spirit working in her I'm sure! She came to church the next day and of course all of the lessons were about marriage and being chaste. I was worried about what she would think, but afterwards she told us that all the messages were exactly what she needed to hear that day! Goes to show that God really does know what He's doing ;)
We've been working with an LA, Wang Jie Mei, and she said that she would come to church on Sunday. Saturday night we felt prompted to go visit her. She wasn't home, but her family was there and they gave us about 20 waffles! What a blessing ;) The next day we had set up to meet with her right before church, but she wasn't answering her phone! So 30 minutes before church we raced to her house and managed to get her there on time! And of course both times the wind was against us. But nothing can stop the work of the Lord!
We met with Ling this week, and we talked all about the Holy Ghost. She cried when she said the closing prayer! We really thought she was going to show up to church, but something came up. Please pray for her!
This week I have been studying a lot about the Holy Ghost. God has given us a promise that through the Holy Ghost we can know the truthfulness of all things. But how can we know that we are feeling the Holy Ghost? In the Book of Moroni it says, "But behold, that which is of God inviteth and enticeth to do good continually; wherefore, everything which inviteth and enticeth to do good and to love God, and to serve him, is inspired of God." (Moroni 7:13). Along with this verse President Gordon B. Hinckley has said, "That's the test, when all is said and done. Does is persuade one to do good, to rise, to stand tall, to do the right thing, to be kind, to be generous? Then it is of the Spirit of God... You recognize the promptings of the Spirit by the fruits of the Spirit- that which englighteneth and buildeth up, that which is positive and affirmative and uplifting and leads us to better thoughts and better words and better deeds is of the Spirit of God." We know it is the Spirit when we act on it. We must be courageous when we follow the promptings of the Spirit. I invite you all to try this experiment. Read the Book of Mormon with the desire to know that it is true. And then ask God if this book is true. You will know through the Spirit the truthfulness of all things (Moroni 10:5). I know this to be true. I love you all! 加油!

My "Death Letter." going home December 19th!!

I'm going to buy one of these shirts for my kids.

All in His Timing

This week was so fast and filled with so many amazing things! On Monday night we met with Ling and we just can't figure out what is going on with her. Something felt different this last time. Please pray for her. I was able to go on exchanges this week in Zhu Nan with Sister Xiao. She is so adorable! It was so much fun and we saw so many miracles! Within the hour and a half of finding that we did we had 3 lessons and found 2 new investigators, one of which has a baptismal date! God is blessing us! Then the next morning we did some more finding. We knocked on this one screen door, and the lady was talking to us but wouldn't open the door. We asked if we could sing for her, and she said of course. As we were singing she slowly started opening the door. It was so cool! Music is so powerful! I love it!

As missionaries we are prompted to do some crazy things. For example, I was riding my bike when I saw this man standing outside a hair salon smoking and talking to another man. I passed by him when I got a prompting that I needed to give him a tract. I kept biking and found a parking spot. By the time I got to where the man was he had already gone inside. So I entered the salon and a bunch of ladies came up to me, probably expecting me to ask for a hair cut. Instead I told them, "Sorry, I need to talk to that man over there." The man looked at me super confused, so I told him, "Hi, this might be strange, but I had this feeling I had to give this to you. I know you're at work, but do you think we could get your number and meet with you another day?" Surprisingly, that worked. Haha! I really believe God has a sense of humor.

Saturday was a crazy day. We had the opportunity to go to the temple with Sister Fisher's recent converts to do baptisms! So we got on the bus and headed into Taibei. We saw that we were going to be late, so we called the RC and said that we would be late. They said that they would enter the temple and wait for us inside. We got there around 1:30 and got inside, but she wasn't there! We called and she said that the people inside had told her that it didn't start until 2, so she and her husband went to go get lunch. So Sister Fisher and I left real quick to go buy something and we came back a little before 2. At about 2:20 we started calling them but they weren't answering. So we finally left around 2:30, and luckily another one of our investigators, Casey, showed up to Taibei with her mom so we were able to do a temple tour with her. At a little past 3 the RC called us and said that they had already gone in and done the baptisms. Haha! Well, at least they made it there.
Sunday was full of miracles! Right before church Arlyn called and said that she wouldn't be able to make it to church (normally she only calls if she can come to church so that we can find her a ride). So church started and none of our investigators were there. We started singing the opening hymn and we got a call from Casey saying that she was outside! So we brought her in, and suddenly Arlyn walked in! I sat by her so I could help her translate and she said, "I called and told you that I could come, but I just told my boss that you didn't understand me so he took me here!" Miracles! And then I looked ahead of me and saw that Su Jie Mei was all there! It was so cool!
I love being a missionary. I love my mission! I love the chance to study the scriptures. I have been reading in the Old Testament lately and I love this verse in Isaiah 48:10, "Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction." The way that you refine silver is by burning it until all the impurities come out. The person knows it is pure silver when he can see his reflection in it. God is refining me until He can see His reflection. I love that. I love that He is helping me become the very best I can be. I'm so grateful for every experience I've had out here. I know my Savior lives! I know that it is because of the Atonement that I am able to get through my day. I have felt the healing and enabling power of the Atonement in my life. I hope that you can too. I love you all and have a wonderful week!

Miracles and The Atonement

Wow! What a week! this was probably the fastest week of my mission! Starting last Monday I was companions with Sister Fan up until Friday morning. It's really cool because after Sister Fan and I split the first time we both had a feeling we would be companions again. Thankfully we were! And we saw so many miracles! Monday night we got to meet with Ling, and we set a baptismal date with her for the 19th of September! When she was saying the closing prayer she started crying! The Spirit was so strong! Sister Fisher and I were able to meet with her and her whole family again last week and we got them all to commit to read scriptures and pray together as a family every day! You can tell that Ling really wants her family to be together forever.

We went and did a mini tsunami in XiangShan on Tuesday and that was super fun. I took a 13 and 14 year old girl out finding! They were so adorable. I had to prompt them to say things at first, but over time they got more bold in sharing their testimonies! It was really cool. It was funny because after about an hour they both got really tired, but I still felt like I could keep going! It really made me realize that God is lifting me up and pushing me through my day everyday. I couldn't do any of this work without Him.
We met with one of Sister Fan's hilarious LA's that prayed that Sister Fan would get married to the Ward Mission Leader. She also told us that she isn't brave enough to kill people, so that's why she doesn't do it. I guess that's one reason for keeping that commandment ;)
Yesterday at church our investigator, Qiu Jie Mei, was able to stay for all three hours of church! And she really loved it! Her baptismal interview is at the end of this week, so pray that she will prepare well for it!
So a couple weeks ago we randomly felt like stopping by a member's home to share a message with her. Her husband is in China and he isn't really active right now, so we like to check up on her and see how she's doing. Well at that time we felt like the visit was really awkward and we couldn't figure out why. But a couple weeks later that member shared her testimony about how grateful she was that we had stopped by her home to see how she was doing! Then yesterday her husband game to church! We were able to meet with him and his wife really quick after church to share a quick message, and he told us how grateful he was that we stopped by his home to visit his wife! Goes to show you really don't know how your actions impact other people.
It rained a lot this week! It went from being super hot to cool enough to put a sweater on. I'm not looking forward to this year's winter.
This week I really gained a strong testimony of the enabling power of the Atonement. At the beginning of last week I was really stressed about having to take care of several areas. But I made it through, and I know it's because of the Atonement. Christ even said, "Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me." (1 Nephi 21:16) He will not abandon us. He is there for us, especially in our hardest times! I am so grateful for that. I'm so grateful for my mission! I'm so grateful for the chance to get to know my Savior even more. I am so grateful for all the lessons I've learned. I wouldn't trade a single second of this experience for anything! I love you all and have a wonderful week(:
