 "Wa Wa Wa Wa"

Hello! Not going to lie, this was a rough week. I really felt so strongly all of your prayers for me. It was absolutely incredible. Thank you for sending your love and support this way. I really needed it.
One really awesome thing that happened this week is that Chloe passed her interview!!(: She's going to get baptized this coming Friday! I am so excited and she is just so adorable! I have seen how she has grown in the gospel and come closer to Christ. I really am so proud of her and so honored I had the opportunity to help her build her relationship with God.
Sister Meyers is the greatest. She made me laugh on so many occasions this week. We were trying to cross the street and there were lots of cars coming and going. Finally we saw a break so we went for it. I suddenly saw my companion stop in the middle of the road and this old man on his bike almost hit her. I had no idea what was going on so I stopped too. I suddenly saw her hobbling around with her bike because her shoe had fallen off! Haha! She hobbled to the other side of the road and I saw that her toe had gone through a hole in her other shoe haha! Oh man, I was dying.

I put the flower on my wall :)
On another day I was just having a really rough time. It literally poured all week. We were soaked all week. We were biking to an area to go finding and she saw this man on the side of the road selling flowers. Sister Meyers said, "I want to buy one." I argued with her and said stuff like, "What are you going to do with a flower?" But she persisted, bought it, and then gave it to me. Just the cheesy thing I needed at that moment. Haha! She's too great.
That whole day we had just been getting rejected. It was really disheartening, but we kept going. The very last door we knocked on this nice lady said that she didn't have time right then. Sister Meyers asked if we could give her a pamphlet, so she came out and grabbed it. We turned to leave when suddenly I felt prompted to turn back and ask her if we could pray for her. She said yes! After that everything that came out of my mouth was completely from God. She set up to meet with us again next week! God prepares His people and He gives us in that very moment the words we need to say.
As for all things funny: one day we went to the night market with the Sister Training leaders. I was laughing how I usually laugh; loudly. The man at the restaurant told me not to leave because when I laughed he made more money! Haha! But then as we were leaving this old man looked at me and started going, "Wa wa wa wa." Haha! Oh my gosh I died! I can officially say my laugh has been made fun of by an old Asian man ;)
Another tender mercy is that my mission mom, Sister Murri, is now the Temple sister! Which means that this week I received a call from her! It was so good and so comforting to hear her voice(: We get to go on exchanges with them this transfer! I am so excited.
Also, Angel from 淡水 Dan Shui came to 花蓮 Hua Lien so we had the opportunity to have lunch with her and her brother and sister! Just what I needed(:
This week I have really learned that God knows what's best for us. We have trials to help us grow. He gives us only what He knows we can handle. He will not abandon us. He loves all of His children. As hard as this work is I wouldn't trade a single minute of it for anything.
I hope you all have a good week(:

Eternal Joy

Wow, this was a fast week filled with so many miracles! How do I even begin? Last Monday night we went finding and this nice woman invited us into her house and gave us ice cream. She had the cutest little granddaughter with her. She listened to our message and accepted a Book of Mormon. She said that she couldn't meet with us again because her husband would fandui. But we had a very strong feeling about her. We left and I got to the stoplight and started contacting a man standing there in Chinese. He stared at me bewildered for about 10 seconds and then I realized he was white haha! Man, I'm so awkward. We had a nice conversation with him (in English...) and gave him a pamphlet to look at. I really don't know how to talk to white people... or what they look like apparently haha!
Some more people gave my companion medicine for her legs, but it turned them all yellow haha! So now her legs are covered in bug bites and dyed an unnatural color ;)
We have been asking everyone for referrals lately. We asked this one man who was not interested in our message and he pointed us to his neighbor. We ended up having a very nice conversation with his neighbor and even got his number! He told us that before he had met us he didn't really understand our church and had a bias against it. But now he had new understanding and was so grateful we gave him a Book of Mormon! How sweet!(:
I had the coolest experience during contacting this week. We knocked on the door and these two beautiful monk women came out. They had shaved heads and wore robes and everything! We were able to find out more about their religion and they let us pray for them and take a selfie with them! It was so awesome!(:
This week we had some super sweet old women talk to us. The first one asked us to sing for her, and then she started singing for us! At the end she gave us this huge hug and kept telling us she loved us haha! Another time we rang a door bell and this old woman came out and just hugged us! It was so sweet! (And not like Taiwanese culture at all). I absolutely love these people(:
As for Chloe, we called her Tuesday night and she told us that her parents signed the permission slip! She can get baptized! She has her interview this coming Wednesday so please pray that she will feel peace and won't be nervous for it. Her baptism is scheduled for the 29th of this month!(:
Last night I was able to witness the most incredible miracle. We have been meeting with this one family, the Dong family, since I came here with Sister Howell. The mom is a member and the dad isn't. They have an absolutely adorable 7 year old. When we first started doing Family Home Evenings with them the dad would always leave and we would have to call him back in. But over time he started staying and listening and participating in the activities. He even has his own Book of Mormon and he will read scriptures with us! We went over last night to read scriptures with Dong Jie Mei and he ended up staying and listening! Last minute I felt prompted to change the chapter we were reading to one about prayer. We all read it and at the end we invited them to say a family prayer every night. They all agreed. I felt prompted to ask Dong Dixiong if he knew how to pray. He kept giving me excuses like, "Oh, I'll just watch them," or "I can just learn from them, it's ok." Everything that I said after that was not my own words. They were completely from God. I was able to teach him how to pray from the pamphlet that we use and then I invited him to pray. He kept declining, but I kept insisting that this was our missionary purpose; to help others come unto Christ. The room was quiet, but finally he said a prayer! It was his first prayer! Oh my goodness, I was so incredibly happy! Dong Jie Mei was so smiley after that. At that moment I could feel God's love for this family. It was overwhelming. I have never been so happy in my life.
This was one of the scriptures that was read last night from Alma 31: "And he also gave them strength, that they should suffer no manner of afflictions, save it were swallowed up in the joy of Christ." I know this scripture is true. There have been so many times on my mission when I have felt beaten and tired and upset because I've been rejected all day. But then a moment like last night, Dong Dixiong praying, brings so much joy that all my afllictions are swallowed up in the joy of Christ. I know that the joy that comes from following Christ is greater than any other joy we can find in this life. I know that through the gospel of Jesus Christ we can have peace in this world and eternal joy in the life to come. I know that this is the work of the Lord. I am a happy missionary for the Lord, Jesus Christ(:
I encourage you all to pray to your Heavenly Father and thank Him for all the blessings He has given you. You will notice a lot more than you think(: I love you all!
This sweet dog followed us around for the day.
This fruit falls off of trees and kills people. It also really stinks!

"Guys... Time Is a Short One!"

I am SO HAPPY! Family, I loved seeing your faces!(: I cannot get over how beautiful you all are! And Logan... your voice freaks me out. I won't get over that one haha! Happy Mother's day to my absolutely incredible mama(: I love my family so much and I'm so grateful that we are sealed together for all time and eternity! What a blessing this gospel brings!
This week was awesome! It is President Day's last two months here on the island so it is crunch time! He is really pushing us to become the best missionaries we can be! We had a zone meeting on Tuesday where they talked about the new vision. He is trying to get us to have pride in the fact that we are Taiwan Taibei missions and push us to be the very best we can be! He gave us a goal of one baptism per companionship in the month of May and  two baptisms in the month of June! Pray that we will find these prepared people! I know that President Day is inspired and that this is straight from God!
President Day says that in order to find these people we need to be finding more. So he wants us to do a minimum of 2 hours a day of finding and it should take a big priority in our planning. So Sister Meyers and I have hit the streets and started knocking doors and we have seen miracles so far! We have found several new investigators that we are planning on meeting with this week. One really cool miracle was when I was on my bike. We were at a stop light and a car pulled up to me. He saw the church name on my bike and asked me where it was. I told him, and then asked him if he had interest in our church. He said yes, and gave me his phone number! We plan on meeting this week(:
We had our last interviews with President Day on Thursday. Man, I really don't want him to leave. He is so inspired and so awesome! He has really helped me to push myself to become the person I am today. I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to serve in this mission while he is president!
The elders had a baptism this week, and we were able to bring our investigator, Chloe, with us. She was a little scared afterwards of the actually baptizing part, but we were able to help her overcome those fears. At the baptism the MM Leader said, "alright, we are now going to hear a testimony from the sister missionaries." He looked over in my direction and I looked behind me at the sisters waiting for them to get up. He did this several times until he walked up to me and said, "Yes, you." Haha! Oops. That was an honor(:
My child and I are still getting attacked by bugs every day. Sister Meyers has a collection of Chinese medicine because every time anyone sees her they say, "Oh! Your legs!" and instantly run to get her something to put on them haha! I love the Taiwanese(:
There was a Mother's Day activity Saturday night and it was so fun! I was looking around at all of the LA's, recent converts, and members that showed up and I was overwhelmed with the amount of love I have for them. I seriously cannot express how much I love these people. They are all so special and so very dear to me.
During English meeting we were all talking too much and finally Elder Marchant yelled, "Guys... time is a short one!" Haha! We were all like, "What does that even mean?!" But it's so true. Time is so short. We need to make the most of every moment. I had the opportunity to Skype my family for 45 minutes. Time is a short one, but I cherished every single minute. My time out in the mission field is so precious and short that I have to make the most of it! I have to work hard and I have to learn to love every experience; good or bad. My mission has changed my life! I wouldn't trade this time for anything. I am grateful that the Lord allows me to do this work. He doesn't need me, but He is allowing me to learn and grow and make these special relationships with these people. I am so grateful.
I love my life! I love my family(: I love Taiwan. I love my Savior.
I love you all(: Have a great week! <3

That Mission Life

Another week gone by doing the work of the Lord. What a privilege it is to be serving here on this beautiful island of Taiwan. I had the opportunity this week to go on exchanges with our Sister Training Leaders. I went with Sister Tan to her area and my child stayed in our area. She managed it like a champ. I had a neat experience while I was on exchanges. We were talking to a recent convert/less active that has all these questions about faith. Every time the sisters meet with him he has the same questions and isn't willing to come to church. During this lesson I was really ting-bu-dong ing a lot. I had this scripture pop into my head, but I didn't know how to cut in and I didn't know when the right time to share it would be. Finally near the end I just cut in. The atmosphere changed after that and I knew it was completely from God. I truly know that this is God's work and He will help us when we have absolutely no clue what is going on.
This week we found out that it is for sure that a stake is getting established here in Hualien in June! This means that they will have their first stake conference here! How exciting! I'm honored I could be here to help get Zion established in Hualien.
The Sister Training Leaders had a baptism on Saturday. It was beautiful. I absolutely love baptisms. I showed up and their MM Leader came up to me and said, "Do you play piano? Could you play for the special musical number?" I was very honored that I could use my talents to help invite the Spirit!
As far as investigators go: Chloe and Jenny (we thought her name was Journey but we heard wrong) are so awesome! Chloe has already read to the end of 2 Nephi and Jenny has read half way through Alma! Please pray that their parents will allow them to get baptized!
Zhang Bo Lin: we had lost contact with her for the past two weeks. Yesterday we went to her house with our MM Leader, Jeff, and she was there! Jeff was so good for her. He talked about how this gospel really does bless families and can truly help her. We could tell that she was really feeling the spirit. She set up to meet again. Please pray that she will have a desire to come to church and keep learning!
Other than that, life is getting hot here in Hualien! The weather is so bipolar. I will be sweating like crazy one minute and then the next minute it is pouring rain like there's no tomorrow. It's quite fun ;) I'm still trying to get to know the members. Last week I accidentally started contacting one. I stopped only when my companion turned to me and said, "He's in our branch..." Oops. I'm also still trying to get this language down. I tried telling someone that I ate two pieces of watermelon but I said I ate two whole watermelons by myself. Pretty impressive, huh? ;)
Life is good. I've never been happier. I love and miss you all so much(: Have a good week and May the 4th by with you ;)
