A Piece of Heaven

Wow. This moment is here. I cannot believe how fast the end came. This is my last email. I literally have no idea what to say or how to express how I'm feeling. This is very surreal to me. I still feel like I have a year and a half left to go! I would like to talk about our Sunday miracle. So several weeks ago my companion found a phone number in the back of her planner. She has been calling him every Sunday and inviting him to come to church. He says that he will, but then he just stands us up. This week she called and said, "Hello! Is this Huang Xiansheng? This is Sister Luo, the one that you always stand up." He sounded super sorry, so she told him, "Today we will meet with you at the fruit stand in about 20 minutes." So about 10 minutes later she called him again and asked if he had left the house. He still hadn't so she said, "Don't stand us up again!" He agreed to meet with us. Ten minutes later Sister Luo called the number again and said, "Why haven't you left the house?... What do you mean your dad already left?... Oh! That was your dad?! No! You are the one that has been standing us up! You need to go with him!" Haha! So we found out that Sister Luo was talking to the wrong man and he had no idea what was going on! But we got to the fruit stand and this sweet old man was waiting for us haha! So we started biking with him to the chapel. Sister Luo was leading the way and we got to a stop light. She was stopped for about 3 to 5 seconds and this man for some reason crashed right into her! Haha! He explained that he didn't see her... I don't know, the whole situation was all so hilarious! He came to church though and seemed to enjoy talking to the other old grandpa in our ward(: Haha!

We met with Jia Dixiong and his son for the last time. Every time I meet with them I feel the Spirit so strongly. We went over the Plan of Salvation with them. It was a cool experience because the last time we taught them the Plan of Salvation was when Jia Dixiong decided to get baptized. The Spirit was so strong in this lesson. I got an impression that this was a little piece of Heaven. It was a really neat moment to know that I will see them again, whether that means this life or the next. I'm so grateful for this gospel!
How do I even begin to say how much I love my mission? How do I even start to explain all of the things I've learned? How do I express my gratitude for a loving Heavenly Father who allowed me to come to Taiwan? I am just so happy! I can say without a doubt that I know that God lives and loves me. I know that the Savior's Atonement is so real! I know that this life is a time to prepare to meet God. I know that by being obedient to the commandments that God has given us we can find true, lasting happiness. I have never been happier in my life. This has been the best year and a half of my life. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I am proud to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I know that this church is true!
"And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!" (D&C 76:22).
I'm so grateful I have had the opportunity to represent the Savior and to help others come unto Him. I love you all so very much. I'll be seeing you soon <3

It's A Process

Nothing really big happened this week, so I would like to tell you about our super golden investigator, Chen Jie Mei. She's the girl that my companion called a couple weeks ago and we met with last week. Well, on Monday she came with us to a Family Home Evening at a member's home and she ended up staying there until 10 at night! Then the next day she texted us and said, "Can I bring my boyfriend with me to meet with you?" Yes! So we set a baptismal date with him as well! She came to church yesterday as well! It is so cool! She's really so awesome and I'm excited to see her progress(:

Other than that we just had a ton of meetings this week. I had my last zone meeting and had the chance to bear my testimony. We also had a meeting with all the sisters on the island and they asked all of us departing missionaries to share a piece of advice with everyone. Man, that was weird haha! I remember always looking up to all the sisters that were older than me and thinking that they had so much experience. Well, now I'm in their place and most of the time I still feel like I have no idea what I'm doing haha! President told me, "This isn't an event; it's a process." I love that God doesn't expect us to learn everything all at once. He hopes that we can gain experience and enjoy the journey along the way. I still have a lot to learn and a long way to go, but that's why it's a learning process, not an event. My mission is a process, not an event. Even though I may not be able to be a full time missionary for my entire life I can still enjoy the process of become more like Christ everyday.
I don't know if my emails even make sense anymore haha! I hope you all know how much I love you and how much I love my Savior. Life is too good not to enjoy it. Have a great week(:
I'm always laughing with her!!!

To the Joy of the Saints

So I would have to say that meeting an apostle was the coolest part of my week. Elder Stevenson came to Taiwan because he has a son that just finished his mission in the Taizhong mission and was picking him up. He took some time to come and talk to us here in Taibei. It was so cool! I think the best part was when he stood up and said to us, "Well, I'm in the twelve now. It's really different." Haha! He's so real I love it! All of us had the opportunity to shake his hand and hug his wife. It was such a neat experience!
Thanksgiving day was so cold! It was so windy and there was no one on the streets! Luckily God provided some tender mercies for us. We had about 3 hours of finding ahead of us and we were already so cold. We remembered a former investigator and went and knocked on his door. He was home with his wife and they invited us inside! So warm, haha! We sang for them and shared a short message and we were invited to come back again another day! We went back outside and started knocking doors again. This super sweet woman from Thailand invited us inside and we were able to meet her daughter as well. We set a baptismal date with her for Christmas! God is so merciful.

Last week my companion found a random number in our phone and decided to call it. The woman set up to meet with us, and we met with her last night. She is so golden! We just got to know her a little bit and taught her about prayer, church, reading scriptures, and baptism. She set a baptismal date as well! It was so cool! God has placed so many amazing people in our lives!
One thing that I really loved that Elder Stevenson shared was about Christ's Atonement. He started talking about Doctrine and Covenants Section 45. This was a revelation given to Joseph Smith when a lot of rumors were being spread about the church, and in the heading he writes; n"But to the joy of the Saints,... I received the following."
In verses 3-5 it says, "Listen to him who is the advocate with the Father, who is pleading your cause before him- Saying: Father, behold the sufferings and death of him who did no sin, in whom thou wast well pleased; behold the blood of they Son which was shed, the blood of him whom thou gavest that thyself might be glorified; Wherefore, Father, spare these my brethren that believe on my name, that they may come unto me and have everlasting life."
Elder Stevenson went on to tell us that THIS is the joy of the saints; the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Christ is pleading with the Father in our behalf. He is there for us and reaching out to us. This is our joy. We have a chance to change and become better because of Christ. We know that no pain is permanent because Jesus Christ is able to heal us. How beautiful is that? This gospel is so amazing.
The Christmas season is here! I would like to give you all the same invite I gave a year ago. There are 24 days leading up to Christmas and Luke happens to have 24 chapters as well. I invite you all to read a chapter a day. Remember the true meaning of Christmas. Really think about how you can celebrate the true meaning of Christmas this year. I love you all so much!(:

Well, I Want to be Baptized

Jia Dixiong and his son got baptized! Oh my goodness, it was such a spiritual baptism! Watching them both walk into the font and be baptized was such a touching moment. I couldn't help but think about how this gospel has affected my family. We are sealed as a family for all time and eternity. We sang the song, "Families Can Be Together Forever" and I was just crying. I am so grateful for this gospel! I am so grateful for a loving Father in Heaven that wants us to be with our families for forever! And I am so grateful for my own family. Man, there is just so much to be grateful for!

This week we saw a ton of cool miracles. Right before our baptism on Saturday we really wanted to find new investigators. So we were determined to ask everyone we saw to come to the baptism. We were eating dinner when I saw this man right next to me. I felt prompted to invite him to come (it was about 2 hours before the baptism at this point). He said he would think about it, and then we left. But he showed up! Oh my gosh it was so surprising and so cool! We met with him again last night and he expressed a lot of interest in learning more about this church! And it turns out that his daughter, who was also at the restaurant with him, told him that several years ago some missionaries had knocked on their door and given her a Book of Mormon! God is so amazing.
Last night we were out knocking doors and just not having any success. We really wanted to find more baptismal date investigators. We started biking to our next appointment when I saw this woman on the side of the road just playing on her phone. I had the strongest feeling that I NEEDED to talk to her. So without thinking I pulled over and walked over to her and started talking to her. We invited her to our English class and she said, "Does that mean you have to get baptized?" I said no, and she said, "Well, I want to be baptized." What?! So we set a baptismal date with her and her boyfriend for the 25th of December! Oh my gosh, God truly sees the desires of our hearts and helps us to reach goals! This work is amazing!
Sometimes I ask myself how I can be so happy when I'm so tired haha! I know it's because of my knowledge of God's plan for us. I know it's because everyday I have the opportunity to serve God and His children. I know that this gospel brings happiness! I cannot tell you the joy I have experienced on my mission. I know that when we keep the commandments we can experience true joy. Nothing in this world compares to the happiness that God can give to us. I know that without a doubt. This church is true. God lives. I love you all and have a fabulous Thanksgiving!(:

 Not Quite American

Qui Jie Mei got confirmed a member of the church this week!(: I'm so happy! And then right after that I had to split work so she became my temporary companion haha! That moment when your past investigator becomes your companion. Such a cool experience. Also Jia Dixiong and his son both passed their interviews! They are getting baptized this coming Saturday! Ah! I'm so happy! God has been blessing us immensely! I have the best investigators in the world!
I want to tell you about this new investigator that we have, Chen Jie Mei. We met her a couple weeks ago knocking doors. She got sick as a child and it messed up her hearing and her speech, so when I first met her I literally ting bu dong-ed everything she was saying. It was really hard for me. But let me tell you, the gift of tongues is real! When you learn to love the people the language comes to you! As we have met with her I have prayed so hard for the gift of tongues and it has come! She is the sweetest woman ever and so funny! She just makes me laugh! I got to lead her around church this last Sunday and I absolutely love her. Even though I still can't understand everything she is saying I know that she is building a testimony of Christ. She has a baptismal date for the 24th of December!(: She's absolutely amazing. I'm so grateful that God has allowed me to meet so many of his amazing children!

There was a Thanksgiving activity for the Stake this last Saturday. The most American thing they had there was Pumpkin Pie from Costco ;) Haha! So good. We had an investigator show up as well. His name is Jack. He's from our English class and he is so sweet! He also came to church! We haven't had a chance to meet with him yet, but he is just so awesome! At this same party this random man came up to me and asked what was going on. I told him it was a Thanksgiving activity and invited him inside. He was really interested in the chapel, and then he sat down with my companion and started giving her all of these medicines to try and help her hair grow back haha! People are so nice here ;)
I love this ward. I love the Taiwanese. I absolutely adore my companion. I have the greatest investigators ever. God lives. He loves us. I know this to be true. I love you!

Three Cakes and a Baptism

Thank you all for the birthday wishes!(: This was the best birthday of my life! In two days I got 3 cakes and a baptism. I'd say that's pretty successful ;) Haha! Thank you all for praying for Qiu Jie Mei! Her baptism was wonderful(: Tuesday morning she had her interview, and I was so excited when she passed! On Thursday we met with her one more time and she brought me a cake! She's so sweet! That night she got baptized. She changed so much. She's so happy. I'm so happy for her! That was the best birthday present ever.
We have some really awesome investigators. Jia Dixiong and his son are so golden! We went over all of the commandments with them yesterday and they are willing to keep them all! Their interview is this coming week and they will be getting baptized next Saturday! They read the Book of Mormon and come to church and pray and everything! God is blessing us so much!

We are also meeting with Lisa (15 years old) and Tom (10 years old). Tom really wants to get baptized! His date is for the 28th. Lisa still isn't quite sure, but we have seen a huge change come over her since we started meeting with her. She is happier and more confident. I love that this gospel changes people!
This week we had stake conference. A member from the Quorum of the Seventy spoke with us (I'm not sure what his name is because the program was all in Chinese... oops). He talked a little bit about the Atonement. He shared Alma 7:11-13, "11. And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
12. And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.
13. Now the Spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me."
He mentioned that often times we think that the Atonement is only for sinners, and of course we are all sinners, but the Atonement is also for those daily pains. He said, "The very last thing these verses mention is that the Atonement saves us from sin. The first thing it mentions is the pains of the world." I love that! We can use the Atonement everyday! Everything that is unfair about life can be made right through the Atonement. Christ suffered for us and He understands us! He loves us and He wants to help us. The Atonement is such a beautiful, mind boggling thing. I'm so grateful.
I love you all so much!(:

When October Goes

Hello(: Not much happened this week, so I'm not really sure what to write. Haha! So we met with that family that I told you about last week, Jia Family. The father always comes to his sons lessons, but hasn't accepted a baptismal date. This week we taught them the Plan of Salvation and we asked them if they believed it was true. The father said, "Yeah! If you want to get to a certain place you have to take a certain path!" I told him that the only way to return to God was to get baptized, and then invited him to be baptized. He said yes!! His date is the same as his son's, the 21st of this month! And then he came to church yesterday! He was supposed to go to work, but he asked for it off just so he could come! How awesome is that?! God is blessing us!

Some things came up and Qiu Jie Mei's interview got moved to this week. We still hope that she can get baptized this Thursday so PLEASE PRAY FOR HER!
My companion called a member's little sister and invited her to come to a fireside last night, and she did! Her name is Sonya. We met with her afterward and we were able to talk to her about the importance of pray, scripture reading, and coming to church. She set a baptismal date for the 5th of December! God is amazing.
This week we received some training on the sacrament. I think it is so cool that God gives us a chance every week to start over. The sacrament is a time that we can think about all the things we want to change and make some plans to do it! It is a chance to remember the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for us. It helps us remember that there is always hope. God is loving and merciful. I really learned that this week. He loves us beyond our comprehension. I hope that you can all focus on the meaning of the sacrament this week. I hope you all can remember that Christ Atoned for us so that no mistake is permanent. I love you all(:
